Meritxell's Sanctuary in Canillo

Meritxell is the Patron Saint of the country: Andorra

The Meritxell's Sanctuary was a Romanesque construction, but in 1972 a huge fire destructed the hall building. But in 1994 it was restored by the famous architect Ricard Bofill.

Today is a totally eclectic building that synthesizes the work of the man and of the landscape that surrounds him. It is a mix of different styles: Islamic, Romanesque, from medieval monasteries, the Renaissance, ... a complete masterpiece.

There is a permanent exhibition called "Meritxell memòria" that shows a trip along the history and the worship of this patron saint.
